Hydrological modelling of largest braided river of India using MIKE Hydro River software with rainfall runoff, hydrodynamic and snowmelt modules

Abstract The Brahmaputra River is one of the world's largest river systems, India's braided river, and its springtime runoff downstream streamflow are mostly due to snowmelt processes. This study analysed used Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM)/Global Forecast System (GFS) rainfall, PET, data as inputs a Rainfall–Runoff (RR) model, which based on MIKE Hydro NAM software package. mathematical model was calibrated against available observed discharge for sub-catchments. performed reasonably well simulated in good agreement with terms timing, rate, volume, shape hydrograph. During calibration procedure, optimum values nine RR-NAM parameters obtained. performance each has been checked measured using coefficient determination (R2). It that value R2 varies from 0.6 0.86. deemed acceptable purposes this study. In addition R2, overall Water Balance error also checked. WBL less than 6%. Despite inherent uncertainties hydrological modelling, it determined can be utilized basin's Flood Forecasting Early Warning design, water resource management planning.
